Newport Beach, CA – 28-Year-Old Cerritos Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Pacific Coast Highway

Newport Beach, CA – A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed following a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Newport Beach on Saturday afternoon, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

The fatal collision occurred on Pacific Coast Highway at 24th Street at approximately 2:36 p.m. on Saturday.

Preliminary investigation findings indicate that a white Toyota Camry was exiting a parking lot to travel southbound on Pacific Coast Highway when it collided with a northbound BMW motorcycle. A witness reported that the rider, described as a male wearing all black, was ejected from the blue motorcycle and landed in a dirt area along the right-hand shoulder.

The motorcyclist, identified only as a 28-year-old man from Cerritos, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released. The driver of the Toyota Camry remained at the scene following the crash.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the Orange County coroner’s office was called to handle the fatality. Authorities temporarily shut down the transition from the eastbound Garden Grove Freeway to the northbound Santa Ana Freeway during the investigation and cleanup efforts. The roadway was reopened at approximately 5:16 p.m.

The crash caused significant traffic disruptions in the area as officials worked to clear the scene and investigate the incident.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, though authorities are working to determine the factors that led to the crash.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety and data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), California consistently records a high number of motorcycle-related fatalities each year, with more than 600 motorcyclists killed annually statewide. In Orange County alone, dozens of motorcycle-involved crashes result in fatalities or serious injuries each year.
