Hesperia, CA – The bicyclist who was killed in a collision with a vehicle early Friday morning in Hesperia has been identified as a 48-year-old Victorville man.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, John Hewitt died following the incident that took place at about 5:28 a.m. February 20, on US 395 at Joshua Street near Hesperia Park & Ride.

Investigations into the accident reveal that Hewitt was riding a bicycle when he was hit by a green 2021 Subaru Forester near the intersection. The impact ejected Hewitt from the bike and as he was on the ground, he was struck by a white 2014 Toyota Camry.

The San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to the incident and found Hewitt unresponsive at the scene. He was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

The involved drivers remained at the site of the accident and were cooperative with the investigators.

Shortly before 6 a.m. February 20, authorities responded to reports of a collision on US 395 at Joshua Street near Hesperia Park & Ride.

Investigations into the incident determined that an adult male bicyclist was hit by at least one vehicle near the intersection. Reasons as to why the bicyclist was struck were not immediately available.

Deputies responded to the scene and located the rider down near the intersection. A green 2021 Subaru Forester and a white 2014 Toyota Camry were also at the scene.

The bicyclist was declared deceased at the site of the collision. His identity was withheld pending notification of the next-of-kin.
