From 2021 through 2023, Los Angeles showed a notable decrease in serious car collisions. In 2021, the city recorded approximately 11,202 victims killed or injured in fatal and injury collisions. That number declined to 8,944 victims in 2022 and further to 8,116 victims in 2023, reflecting a downward trend in serious crash totals over those three years. Alcohol-involved collision counts and DUI-related victims decreased year-over-year, as did motorcycle and bicyclist victims in the reported totals. Pedestrian victims also declined modestly, though they continued to represent a large share of serious outcomes. Speed-related and nighttime collisions similarly trended lower in reported serious crash counts across this period. Despite these reductions in overall serious collision counts, Los Angeles continues to experience high rates of vulnerable road user injuries and fatalities, underscoring ongoing traffic safety challenges even amid recent declines.
