A party called 911, reporting that they had hit a pedestrian in the HOV lanes.
Firefighters and Caltrans responded to the scene.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the crash site.
Two tow trucks were requested to respond to the scene, but it was unclear if a second car was involved in the crash.
CHP officers are investigating the accident.
