Victorville, CA. – The San Bernardino County Medical Examiner has released the identity of the pedestrian who was killed after being struck by an SUV on El Evado Road in Victorville Saturday evening.
Authorities identified the deceased as 92-year-old Roman Veloza Panitan Sr., a resident of Victorville.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:17 p.m. on February 7, 2026, on El Evado Road north of Dos Palmas Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Preliminary reports indicate that a gold-colored 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on El Evado Road when it struck two pedestrians in the roadway. The SUV came to a stop along the shoulder in the southbound lane. The vehicle sustained visible damage to the front passenger side, including a dented fender and possible bumper damage.
Panitan was pronounced dead at the scene. A second pedestrian was transported to a hospital with injuries. Officials have not released additional information regarding the injured party. No arrests have been reported.
The cause of the Victorville crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Victorville Station.
Emergency personnel, including the San Bernardino County Fire Department, responded to the scene. Two ambulances were initially requested, although one was later canceled.
El Evado Road was closed in both directions between Dos Palmas Road and Cholame Road while authorities conducted their on-scene investigation. San Bernardino County Public Works assisted with establishing the hard road closure.
The incident remains under investigation.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), San Bernardino County continues to see a significant number of pedestrian-involved collisions each year. Statewide figures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that California recorded more than 4,400 traffic fatalities in 2022, with pedestrians accounting for a substantial portion of those deaths.
