Carnelian Bay, CA – One person suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 28 in Carnelian Bay on Tuesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said a blue Toyota 4Runner collided with a light-colored SUV. The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately released, but airbags were deployed in at least one of the vehicles. The Toyota 4Runner sustained moderate front-end damage and was reportedly unable to open its doors following the impact.
One driver was transported to Tahoe Forest Hospital prior to CHP’s arrival with major injuries. The total number of injured parties has not been confirmed, but at least one person was seriously hurt.
A male passenger from a Subaru fled the scene on foot and was reportedly accompanied by a dog. Placer County Sheriff’s Office deputies and CHP officers searched the area but were unable to locate him.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and tow trucks were requested for the involved vehicles. Authorities worked to assess injuries and clear the wreckage from the roadway.
The crash caused disruptions along SR-28 at Old County Road while responders conducted their on-scene investigation and removed the damaged vehicles.
The Carnelian Bay crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
