Between 2019 and 2023, Needles saw notable shifts in serious traffic collision counts. In 2019, the city had 5 victims killed or injured in fatal and injury crashes, a relatively low total that placed it near the lower end of comparable California communities. By 2021, this count rose to 14 victims, and in 2022 it further increased to 15 victims, indicating a period of heightened collision frequency. In contrast, 2023 data show a substantial decline, with only 6 victims killed or injured, roughly half the count from the previous two years. Alcohol-involved crash counts dropped from 3 victims in 2022 to 1 in 2023, and DUI arrests fell from 28 to 10 over the same period. Speed-related and nighttime collisions also decreased, suggesting an overall reduction in serious crash involvement in 2023 compared with the earlier upward trend. These changes reflect fluctuation rather than a consistent pattern, influenced by small-sample variability in this low-population community.
