San Bernardino County, CA –The person who was killed in a pedestrian crash on Twentynine Palms Highway in Morongo Valley early Thursday morning has been identified, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The authorities identified the deceased pedestrian as David James Hill, 62, of Morongo Valley.
The collision occurred on Twentynine Palms Highway east of Adeline Way at approximately 5:35 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, CHP reported.
According to CHP’s preliminary investigation, Hill was walking within the #1 lane of westbound Twentynine Palms Highway when a white Hyundai Sonata, driven by a Yucca Valley resident, was traveling westbound and its front struck Hill. The impact threw Hill into the eastbound lanes of the highway, where he was struck by additional vehicles.
Hill was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Morongo Valley Fire Department. CHP did not report the names of any drivers involved beyond the description of the Sonata operator, and no arrests have been made in connection with the collision at this time.
CHP says they do not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, based on initial findings.
CHP officers responded to the scene to investigate the collision and manage traffic as emergency personnel worked to clear the roadway following the fatal incident.
Traffic on Twentynine Palms Highway was impacted during the morning commute hours, with delays reported as responders processed the scene and reopened lanes for travel.
