San Diego, CA – Two people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 in San Diego on Wednesday afternoon, according to a California Highway Patrol log.

According to the CHP, at least two vehicles were involved in the collision and the impact caused one of them to roll over. The factors that led up to the wreck were yet to be established.
The CHP officers as well as crews from San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to the scene of the collision.
After evaluation by the medics, two peple were transported to a hospital for further treatment. One of the patients had major trauma while the other was being treated for minor injuries.
Due to the CHP investigations and the removal of vehicles from the scene, all southbound lanes of I-15 were blocked near Balboa Avenue for nearly one hour. All lanes were reopened at about 2:30 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol officers are still gathering more information as they work to determine what caused the accident.

The Vision Zero Action Plan reports that 54% of fatal and serious injury crashes occur on just 6% of the region’s roads, identifying a “high injury network” that requires targeted safety improvements. Common contributing factors to these collisions include human error, such as distracted driving, speeding, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and a lack of pedestrian right-of-way adherence at crosswalks and intersections.
