Discovery Bay, CA – At least one person was severely injured following a multi-vehicle collision on State Route 4 in Discovery Bay late Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash occurred on SR-4 at the Old River Bridge at approximately 4:39 p.m. on January 27, 2026, blocking both lanes of the roadway during the initial response.

According to CHP incident logs, the crash was first reported as a head-on traffic collision and ultimately involved four vehicles.

Early information identified a Toyota Tacoma and another vehicle described as a Honda or Mercedes-type sedan, with additional vehicles becoming involved as the incident unfolded.

All lanes of SR-4 were blocked as a result of the collision.

At least one person was transported from the scene with serious injuries.

CHP logs did not indicate any arrests related to the multi-vehicle crash. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and investigators have not released details on contributing factors at this stage.

CHP officers responded to the scene and coordinated traffic control and roadway clearance while managing the investigation.
