San Mateo, CA – The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian who was fatally hit by a vehicle Saturday morning near an intersection in San Mateo.

62-year-old Veronica Vasquez of Redwood City died at a local hospital after the crash that happened around 10:30 a.m. on January 24.

San Mateo Police Department officers responded to South El Camino Real and 17th Avenue after they were notified about a pedestrian accident in the area.

The officers found Vazquez suffering from critical injuries.

Paramedics responded and transported the pedestrian to an area hospital. Vazquez was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the facility.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Vazquez was walking in the north crosswalk of South El Camino Real at 17th Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle turning north from Bovet Road onto South El Camino Real. Bovet Road becomes 17th Avenue on the east side of the intersection.

The driver stopped and cooperated with investigators.

San Mateo, CA – A pedestrian was killed Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle at a busy San Mateo intersection, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 10:30 a.m., January 23, at South El Camino Real and 17th Avenue, according to San Mateo police.

Officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash and found a woman suffering from critical injuries.

Paramedics took the pedestrian to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity was not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver involved remained at the location following the collision, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the car turned north from Bovet Road onto South El Camino and struck the woman as she was crossing in the north crosswalk of South El Camino Real at 17th Avenue. Bovet Road becomes 17th Avenue on the east side of the intersection.

Authorities temporarily closed lanes of El Camino Real and the westbound Highway 92 off-ramp to South El Camino Real for about three hours while investigators examined the scene and collected evidence. The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately clear.

The incident remains under investigation.
