3 Killed, 2 Hurt in Quartzsite Crash on Interstate 10

Quartzsite, AZ – A single vehicle collision claimed the lives of three people and sent two others to a hospital early Thursday morning in the Quartzsite area.

According to a report by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident happened at around 5:45 a.m. January 22, on Interstate 10.

Authorities reported that a vehicle with multiple occupants was traveling in the northbound side of Interstate 10 when it left the roadway and rolled over. It’s unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The AZDPS as well as fire and medical personnel responded to the scene a few minutes later and attended to those involved in the accident.

Authorities confirmed that three parties were deceased at the scene. Two other patients were transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

There were no details on the identities of the deceased and the injured parties.

Authorities reported that there were no traffic disruptions due to the accident. Authorities are conducting an investigation to ascertain the cause of the deadly crash.

Arizona experienced a slight decline in traffic incidents over the past two years, though crash fatalities remain high. In 2023, the state reported 122,247 total motor-vehicle crashes with 1,307 deaths, while 2024 saw a small decrease to 121,107 crashes and 1,228 fatalities, representing a 6.1% drop in deaths compared with the previous year. Despite the modest improvement, the number of serious injuries and fatalities remains near historically high levels, highlighting ongoing road safety challenges.

Speeding, impaired driving, and failure to use safety devices continue to be major contributing factors in fatal and serious crashes across the state. Emergency response efforts and public safety campaigns aim to reduce these risks, but Arizona’s highways and urban roads continue to see a significant number of severe accidents annually.
