Gilroy, CA – Authorities have released the identities of a couple killed in an auto-pedestrian collision involving a teenage driver in Gilroy on Friday morning.
Andrew Stuart and Stacia Stuart died following the accident that took place on Charles Lux Drive and Lopez Way at around 9 a.m. on January 17.
According to the Gilroy police, the couple had just dropped off their children at school and were walking in the crosswalk at the intersection when they were hit by a vehicle. The accident occurred a short distance from the Las Animas Elementary School.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after and performed life-saving measures on the victims. Despite their efforts, Andrew Stuart succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Stacia Stuart sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, where she died at a later date.
The teenage driver stayed at the scene after the crash and cooperated with the investigators. Police reported that speed and impairment were not believed to have played a role in the accident.
The Gilroy Police Department is investigating the collision.
