Natomas, CA – Authorities responded to a major injury collision involving a dump truck on Interstate 5 in Natomas on Thursday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported at about 6 p.m. January 15, near the Arena Boulevard exit.

A preliminary investigation reveals that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 when it slammed into the rear of the dump truck. It’s unclear what led up to the collision.

CHP officers and emergency personell arrived at the scene shortly after and found one injured person.

The patient, who was the driver that crashed into the dump truck, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver’s name and age were not specified but authorities said he was a male.

No other injuries were reported in the collision.

The CHP reported that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs were not believed to have played a role in the collision.

The incident remained under investigation.
