A preliminary investigation determined that a woman was walking near or in a crosswalk at the intersection when she was hit by a driver in a green Toyota Tundra
San Rafael, CA – Authorities responded to a fatal collision that left a pedestrian deceased at an intersection in San Rafael on Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place near Point San Pedro Road and Summit Avenue at around 8:40 a.m. January 14.
A preliminary investigation determined that a woman was walking near or in a crosswalk at the intersection when she was hit by a driver in a green Toyota Tundra. The circumstances under which the pedestrian was struck were not immediately determined.
The CHP, sheriff’s deputies, and firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident.
The woman was declared dead at the scene. The victim’s identity was not released pending notification of the next-of-kin.
The man driving the Toyota was cooperative with investigators. It was unclear whether speed or impairment played a role in the accident.
At least one lane of Point San Pedro Road remained closed for hours as authorities gathered more evidence at the scene. The California Highway Patrol is working to ascertain the cause of the accident.
