CHP officers, La Mesa police officers, and firefighters responded to the scene after receiving reports of an auto-pedestrian collision.
A man was allegedly walking in traffic lanes when he was struck by a vehicle. The victim died from the injuries suffered in the accident.
La Mesa police assisted in closing Spring Street on-ramp while CHP investigated. Eastbound I-8 also remained closed for several hours following the crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
