4 Hospitalized after Victorville Accident on El Evado Road and La Mesa Road

Victorville, CA – A suspected impaired driving collision sent four people to a hospital on Tuesday afternoon in Victorville, according to the Victorville Police Department.

Multiple vehicles were involved in the incident that took place on El Evado Road and La Mesa Road at around 12:31 p.m. February 10.

According to the report, a black Kia Forte was traveling north on El Evado Road when it ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a white Hyundai Palisade heading west on La Mesa Road.

The Kia then proceeded and crashed into a black Mercedes that was stopped near the intersection facing south on El Evado Road. The Hyundai left the roadway and slammed through a chain-link fence.

Deputies and firefighters immediately responded to the site of the accident and made contact with the occupants of the three involved vehicles.

The driver of the Hyundai and three people riding in the Kia were transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries. Details on the conditions of the hospitalized patients were not available in the VPD report.

During the on-scene investigations, deputies located open alcohol containers and tanks of nitrous oxide in the Kia. The accident is being investigated as a possible DUI collision.

No additional information on the incident have been released at this time. The Victorville Police Department continues to investigate to determine the surrounding factors of the crash.

California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) data show that Victorville’s total fatal and injury collision count declined from 626 in 2022 to 452 in 2023, indicating a reduction in serious crash involvement year-over-year. In 2022, the city ranked 31st of 61 in total fatal and injury victims among similar California cities; by 2023, the count dropped, and the ranking shifted to 51st of 62, reflecting relative improvement in this metric. Alcohol-involved victims also decreased from 124 to 64, and motorcycle victims dropped from 57 to 33, suggesting lower involvement of these factors in serious collisions. Pedestrian and bicyclist victim counts fell as well. Speed-related and nighttime collisions showed declines, while hit-and-run counts decreased from 42 to 25. DUI arrests similarly declined from 193 to 105, which may correspond with fewer severe crashes. These changes suggest a downward trend in serious car collision involvement in Victorville between 2022 and 2023, though year-to-year variation remains common.
