Stockton, CA – A 64-year-old pedestrian was critically injured Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Stockton, authorities said.
According to the Stockton Police Department, officers responded at approximately 6:28 p.m., December 30, to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the intersection of East Fremont Street and North East Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 64-year-old individual suffering from serious injuries. Paramedics transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where the person was listed in critical condition.
Police said the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The collision temporarily shut down roadways in the area as officers documented the scene and conducted their investigation. All lanes have since reopened.
Stockton has experienced significant fluctuations in traffic fatalities in recent years, with a sharp increase noted in late 2024 but a marked decrease reported through the first half of 2025. As of late 2024, Stockton’s traffic deaths were running 43% higher than the previous year, with 30 fatalities reported by late November, surpassing the total full-year tallies for the two preceding years. However, recent data for 2025 indicate a more positive trend, with traffic fatalities down by more than half compared to the same period the previous year, a decline the Stockton Police Department attributes to increased enforcement against speeding and distracted driving.
