Sacramento County, CA – One person was killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 80 in Sacramento County on Christmas Eve, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol.
The accident took place on eastbound I-80 near Elkhorn Boulevard in the Foothills Farms area on Wednesday, December 24.
According to CHP, a driver in a van was traveling eastbound on I-80 when the van left the roadway and slammed into a tree. The van then burst into flames due to the impact of the crash.
The CHP and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews responded to the scene to offer aid to the driver.
The involved motorist was declared deceased at the site of the collision. The driver’s identity was not immediately disclosed.
Authorities have not released further information on the incident. The crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
