The deadly crash happened on SR-91 eastbound near the I-605 connector at around 7:27 a.m. on Thursday, officials said.

Cerritos, CA – A motorcyclist was killed after a two-vehicle collision on State Route 91 early Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The deadly crash happened on SR-91 eastbound near the I-605 connector at around 7:27 a.m., officials said.
According to CHP logs, a white SUV and a motorcycle collided in the eastbound HOV lane. The SUV reportedly crossed out of the HOV lane, causing the motorcycle to strike the vehicle. A second vehicle, described as a white Toyota RAV4, was also involved when the rider impacted it after the initial collision.
Authorities confirmed that the motorcyclist was found unresponsive in the HOV lane and was later pronounced dead at the scene. At least one other driver was involved, but no additional injuries were immediately confirmed. No arrests have been reported.
The exact cause of the multi-vehicle crash has not yet been determined, though investigators noted that one vehicle continued driving after the initial impact.
Emergency crews, including Los Angeles County Fire Department medics, responded and blocked the HOV and No. 1 lanes while treating the victim and securing the scene.
The collision caused a significant traffic backup on SR-91, leading to a one-hour SigAlert as authorities shut down multiple lanes.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Crash Statistics – California Motorcycle Fatalities
California continues to experience a high number of motorcycle-related deaths each year. According to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), more than 500 motorcyclists are killed annually in traffic collisions across the state. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also reports that motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to die in crashes compared to passenger-vehicle occupants.
In Los Angeles County specifically, thousands of motorcycle crashes are recorded each year, many occurring on congested freeway systems like SR-91 and I-605. High-speed conditions, traffic density, and lane-splitting activity all contribute to elevated risk levels for riders.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a motorcycle collision, it’s crucial to understand your rights. Motorcycle crashes often result in severe injuries, and insurance companies may work quickly to minimize payouts. Speaking with an experienced motorcycle-accident attorney can help ensure that evidence is preserved and that you receive the compensation you deserve.
