In 2021, Dublin, CA experienced a notable increase in traffic collisions, largely attributed to a return to pre-pandemic traffic flows and higher speeds. The number of injury-related traffic collisions saw a significant rise of 39.5 percent, resulting in a 44.9 percent increase in the number of people injured. Â A dramatic increase was observed in collisions involving driving under the influence (DUI), nearly a 77 percent increase from 11 DUI-related crashes in 2020 to 25 in 2021. This trend was partly linked to the reopening of bars and lounges for in-person service as the pandemic eased. Â In response to these trends, the Dublin City Council adopted a Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP) in January 2023, which uses historical data to identify high-risk areas and implement safety improvements. The city also participates in state-funded programs like the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) to help reduce the number of fatal and injury collisions through targeted enforcement and public awareness campaigns.
