Otay Mesa, CA – 23-Year-Old Moped Rider Suffers Severe Head Trauma in Crash on Britannia Boulevard

Investigators said a 45-year-old woman driving a black 2018 Cadillac XTS was traveling northbound in the right lane when she began to make a right turn into a driveway. At that time, a moped rider crashed into the passenger side of the SUV.

Otay Mesa, CA. – A 23-year-old moped rider suffered severe head trauma Friday afternoon after colliding with an SUV on Britannia Boulevard, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. in the 2100 block of Britannia Boulevard.

Investigators said a 45-year-old woman driving a black 2018 Cadillac XTS was traveling northbound in the right lane when she began to make a right turn into a driveway.

At the same time, the moped rider was traveling alongside slower-moving vehicles in the same lane and struck the passenger side of the SUV.

The impact left the 23-year-old man with significant head injuries. He was transported to a hospital with serious trauma.

Police said alcohol is not believed to have contributed to the collision.

The SDPD Traffic Division is handling the investigation.

Younger adults (ages 20-29) and older adults (age 80+) are the demographics most frequently involved in crashes, with differing reasons such as inexperience for the young and age-related physical changes for the elderly.
