Pedestrian safety continues to be a major issue across California. Recent data from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) shows that pedestrians make up roughly 25% of all traffic-related fatalities statewide—one of the highest rates in the country.
San Diego has seen similar concerns, with local reports from the San Diego Police Department and the city’s Vision Zero initiative indicating that pedestrian fatalities remain among the leading causes of traffic deaths each year.
