Sonoma County, CA. – 94-year-old Fernando Velazquez of Santa Rosa died after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near Windsor in Sonoma County.

The fatal accident was reported around 11 p.m. on Old Redwood Highway near Shiloh Road.

According to investigators, Velazquez had been riding his bicycle when he stopped on the northbound right-hand shoulder of the roadway.

At that time, a passing Range Rover drifted onto the shoulder and hit him.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the cyclist to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he died.

The SUV driver stopped and remained at the scene.

Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as contributing factors.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Velazquez’s family opened a GoFundMe account to help them raise funds for his funeral, memorial, and legal expenses.
