Salinas, CA.- Two people were killed in a crash involving a hit-and-run motorist in Salinas on Thursday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At around 4:16 p.m. September 11, authorities responded to calls of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 183, south of Cooper Road.

According to CHP, a gray GMC SUV was traveling southbound on Highway 183 when it crashed into the rear of a red sedan that was stopped to make a left turn.

The impact pushed the sedan into the northbound side and it collided with an oncoming semi-truck.

The two passengers in the sedan, identified as Aristeo Cruz Jimenez, 31, of Port Hueneme, and Marcos Cruz Alia, 35, of Salinas, were both killed in the crash.

The driver of the sedan, a 20-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with major injuries.

The driver of the SUV, a 19-year-old Salinas woman, fled the scene after the accident but was later located.

Details on any charges in connection with the accident were not released.

The crash remains under investigation.
