Orange, CA – The man who was hit and killed by a Sheriff’s SUV on Wednesday in Orange has been identified as Gregory John Beckmann, 74, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner Division.

The deadly accident happened around 10:15 p.m. on August 27 at the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Prospect Street.

Police said Beckmann was crossing the street, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by an Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s SUV.

The SUV did not have its emergency lights and sirens on at the time of the accident.

Beckmann was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident closed Chapman Avenue between Prospect and James streets for several hours.

The police are investigating the accident.
