Barstow, CA – A woman was killed in a solo-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 in Barstow early Friday morning.
The deadly crash happened at about 1:46 a.m. on August 1 on northbound Interstate 15 near Outlet Center Drive.
Investigators said Lukavia Alvarez, a 20-year-old woman from Kerrville, Texas, was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla northbound when, for some reason, the Toyota veered to the right, across all lanes freeway onto the right shoulder. Alvarez tried to correct the vehicle by turning to the left towards the traffic, but lost control and slid sideways back to the right shoulder and crashed into the metal guardrail.
Alvarez was transported to Barstow Community Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
There were two 20-year-old female passengers from San Angelo, Texas, in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
One of the passengers was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with major injuries. The other passenger was not injured.
No additional information was provided.
The crash is under investigation.
