Authorities said the woman, a transient, was crossing the street when she was hit by a vehicle.
The pedestrian suffered severe injuries. She was hospitalized in critical condition.
The driver of the car, a 28-year-old National City resident, and his 21-year-old passenger remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
