Oceanside, CA. – A Starbucks employee and a driver were hospitalized after a semi-truck plowed into a coffee shop in Oceanside, the Oceanside Fire Department reported.

The incident was reported around 4:45 a.m. on North Coast Highway near State Route 76.

Authorities said a semi-truck veered off the roadway, slammed through a cinderblock wall, and crashed into a nearby Starbucks coffee shop.

The big rig’s cab ended up inside the structure, trapping the driver inside.

All Starbucks employees were able to get out of the building, which was significantly damaged.

Firefighters took some time before extricating the driver until power to the building was cut off.

The driver and an employee were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Reportedly, the semi-truck driver suffered a medical emergency and ran a red light prior to the collision.

Teams from the Oceanside Police Department, Oceanside Fire Department, and San Diego Gas & Electric responded to the scene.
