Bakersfield, CA – One person was killed and five others, including three children. were hospitalized after a Sunday evening head-on collision on Highway 58 in Bakersfield.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the wreck at around 5:57 p.m., February 2, on Highway 58, west of Interstate 5.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 22-year-old Buttonwillow man was driving a westbound 2023 Dodge on Highway, west of Interstate 5. At the same time a 19-year-old Buttonwillow woman was driving a 2016 Chevrolet eastbound on Highway 58, west of Interstate 5 approaching the Dodge.

The police said the Dodge passed an uninvolved vehicle while traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into the Chevrolet.

The female driver of the Chevy died at the scene.

The Dodge driver sustained moderate to major injuries and was taken to a hospital. A passenger from the Dodge, identified as a woman, sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital along with three children sustaining minor injuries.

Alcohol and drugs were not suspected as factors in the crash.

The name of the deceased was not immediately released.

More information about the mishap was not provided.
