Chico, California (May 9, 2022) – One person sustained major injuries in a Chico car accident that occurred on Highway 99 on Saturday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened near the intersection of Esplanade at around 5:54 p.m. on May 7.

A Mazda 6 and a Chrysler PT Cruiser were involved in the collision on the northbound side of Highway 99.

One person trapped in the wreckage was extricated by the firefighters.

The patient was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The northbound lanes of Highway 99 were closed for the investigation.

The crash remained under investigation.
