San Francisco, CA – A motorcyclist was killed in a traffic collision on Interstate 80 near the Bay Bridge in San Francisco early Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:28 a.m. on westbound Interstate 80 near the Bay Bridge metering lights.
CHP logs indicated that the motorcycle may have been struck by another vehicle, possibly a Home Depot truck. The rider was found down in lane No. 2, while the motorcycle came to rest on the right-hand shoulder near the incline.
The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. Information regarding the other vehicle possibly involved was still being investigated, and no arrests were immediately reported.
CHP officers, emergency medical personnel, Caltrans crews, and the San Francisco Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and roadway operations.
The collision prompted a SigAlert on westbound Interstate 80 west of the metering lights, with the right lane blocked for several hours during the investigation. Traffic delays were reported in the area before all lanes reopened at approximately 8:45 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
