Phelan, CA – One person was killed following a traffic collision involving a sedan and a semi-truck in Phelan late Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident was reported at about 10:05 p.m. on May 20 at Sheep Creek Road and Dos Palmas Road.
CHP incident log stated that a black sedan overturned multiple times after colliding with the rear of a semi-truck. The sedan rolled onto the left shoulder and landed on its roof.
The male driver of the sedan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. Authorities were also searching for a large white truck seen near Beekley Road that may have been associated with the collision. No arrests were immediately reported.
The exact cause of the fatal Phelan crash remains under investigation. Investigators have not yet determined whether impairment or other factors contributed to the collision.
California Highway Patrol officers, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies, county roads crews, and Air Operations personnel responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and roadway closure operations.
The crash prompted a hard closure of Sheep Creek Road between Cholame Road and Chevoit Road for several hours while investigators processed the scene and arranged for evidence towing. The roadway was later fully reopened.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
