Lassen County, CA.- A woman from was killed in a crash involving a alleged DUI driver in Lassen County on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck took place on Highway 36, just west of U.S. , shortly before 8 a.m. January 14.

According to the CHP, William R. Dougherty, 49, of Sacramento, was driving a Ford Club Wagon van at a high rate of speed east on Highway 36 when he slammed into the rear of a Chevrolet Equinox.

The force of the crash pushed the Chevrolet into the rear of a Freightliner.

The Ford also struck a Jeep Wrangler, causing the Jeep to hit a Chevrolet Silverado.

The Equinox driver, identified as a 47-year-old Susanville woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A passenger in the Equinox, a 10-year-old girl, was flown to a hospital in Reno with unspecifiedinjuries.

The operators of the Siverado and the Jeep were treated for minor injuries.

According to CHP, Dougherty was arrested and booked on suspecion of DUI murder and vehicular manslaughter.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
