Vinton, CA – One person was killed, and at least one other person was injured after three vehicles collided on Highway 70 in Vinton late Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred on the 92400 block of Highway 70 at Ede Street, at approximately 11:17 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Preliminary investigation findings indicate that the incident involved a truck, an SUV, and a sedan, specifically identified as a Ford F-150, a Ford Explorer, and a Dodge Dart. Following the impact, two of the vehicles came to rest off the roadway while one remained blocking the lanes.
At least one person was pronounced deceased as a result of the crash. Additionally, one occupant suffered a severe broken leg, and two ground ambulances, along with a CareFlight helicopter, were dispatched to the scene to transport the injured. No arrests were reported following the Vinton crash.
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the multi-vehicle accident, which left both the Ford F-150 and the Dodge Dart with major damage and rendered them non-driveable.
California Highway Patrol officers, Plumas County Sheriff’s Office deputies, fire personnel, and Caltrans responded to the scene. Emergency crews worked to extricate an occupant who remained trapped in a vehicle shortly after the collision.
The impact of the crash forced a closure of both lanes of Highway 70 to allow the CareFlight helicopter to land and for crews to clear debris. The roadway was reported clear by approximately 12:36 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
