Victorville, CA – A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday evening on Mojave Drive in Victorville, authorities reported.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and performed CPR, then transported the victim to the hospital by ambulance. The man later died from his injuries.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, the victim was crossing the roadway when the accident happened.
Witnesses at the scene said the pedestrian is a white male believed to be in his 60s. Locals identified him as a homeless man known in the area as “old man James,” who is often seen near a dumpster behind the Economy Inn.
The car involved was described as a black four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, with major damage to the front passenger side. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors.
