Oakland, CA. – 63-year-old Hector Ortega died after he was struck by two cars while riding an e-bike Friday evening at an intersection in Oakland, the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau reported.
The accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. at Miller Avenue and East 16th Street.
According to investigators, Hector was riding an electric bicycle southbound on Miller Avenue when he reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign at East 16th Street.
Hector entered the intersection and was hit by a Ford SUV heading eastbound on East 16th Street, and then by a Honda sedan traveling westbound on East 16th.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and took the rider to the hospital.
Hector was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the facility.
Both drivers stopped after the collision and cooperated with authorities.
Police officers are investigating to establish if impairment played a role in the accident.

Oakland, CA.- A bicyclist was struck and injured by a vehicle in Oakland on Friday night, according to the Oakland Police Department.
The incident took place near 16th Street and Miller Avenue at about 6:20 p.m. September 25.
Police reported that a 63-year-old Oakland man was riding an electric bike southbound on Miller Avenue when he collided with a Ford SUV traveling east on 16th Street.
The bike rider then collided with a Honda sedan heading west on 16th Street.
The bicyclist was rushed to a hospital with severe injuries.
Both drivers involved in the accident remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
