Campbell, CA – A 47-year-old Campbell man was killed in a fiery rear-end crash involving a suspected intoxicated driver early Tuesday morning on Highway 17, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:48 a.m. on southbound Highway 17, just north of the Hamilton Avenue offramp.

According to CHP, a 21-year-old Los Gatos man was driving a 2018 Dodge Challenger when he crashed into the rear of a 2000 Toyota Tacoma driven by the 47-year-old Campbell man.

The impact caused the Toyota to lose control and become fully engulfed in flames. The Campbell man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

Authorities believe the 21-year-old driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and causing death or serious bodily injury.

No additional information was provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
