Santa Maria, CA. – A man died, and another was critically hurt when they were struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning in Santa Maria, the Santa Maria Police Department reported.
The accident occurred around 5 a.m. in the 700 block of West Main Street.
Police said a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were walking across Main Street mid-block outside of a crosswalk when they were hit by a car driven by a woman.
Both men sustained severe injuries. AMR responded to the scene and transported the patients to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The 23-year-old man later succumbed to his injuries.
The 22-year-old man remained in critical injuries.
The driver of the car stopped and cooperated with investigators.
Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors.
The SMPD Traffic Unit and Crime Lab is investigating the accident.
