Tucson, AZ – Three people were killed in a crash involving a suspected wrong-way motorist west of Tucson on Sunday morning.
According to a report by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident took place at around 3 a.m. September 13, on State Route 86 near milepost 159.
The DPS reported that a man was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of SR 86 when he collided with another vehicle.
The wrong-way motorist was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The man and the woman riding in the second vehicle succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The identities of the deceased parties were not immediately released.
Initial investigations indicate that impairment may have played a role for the wrong-way driver, the DPS reported.
The exact circumstances of the collision remained under investigation.
