Tempe, AZ – Two people were hospitalized following a collision involving a suspected DUI motorist in Tempe early Thursday morning, according to a report by the Tempe Police Department.
Shortly after midnight January 22, authorities received a report of a crash on Mill Avenue near the US 60 overpass.
According to investigators, a vehicle traveling on Mill Avenue was moving at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to stop for a red light and crashed into a second vehicle that was making a left turn on a green arrow light.
The Tempe Police Department officers and fire crews responded to the incident and helped the involved motorists.
The drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles and were transported to a hospital. The drivers had serious injuries but were said to be in stable condition.
Police reported that speed and impairment were suspected to have played a role in the collision.
Following the on-scene investigations and cleanup, Mill Avenue was shut down in both directions for an unspecified duration.
The Tempe Police Department officers are still working to determine the exact cause of the collision.
