Tehama County, CA – One person was killed in a solo vehicle crash on Live Oak Road in Tehama County on Friday morning, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.

The tragic incident was reported at about 9:30 a.m. January 2, west of San Joaquin Drive near Red Bluff.

According to the CHP report, an Audi A4 was traveling west on Live Oak Road at an unspecified speed when the driver made an unsafe left turn. The Audi drifted across the eastbound lane and ended up in the south shoulder, where it hit a wire fence and slammed into a tree.

Bystanders attempted to pull out the driver from the car but were unsuccessful. The CHP and firefighters arrived shortly after and extricated the man.

Medics performed life-saving measures on the driver but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity was not immediately released.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the accident.

Tehama County recorded a total of 371 victims killed or injured in fatal and injury collisions in 2023, a slight decrease from 384 victims in 2022. The county’s overall OTS ranking improved significantly from 46th (out of 58 counties) in 2022 to 10th in 2023, where a lower number indicates a worse ranking.  Specific collision categories reveal varying levels of risk. For 2023, alcohol-involved collisions resulted in 58 victims killed or injured, placing the county at a rank of 13/58. Of the victims in 2023, 9 were pedestrian, 5 were bicyclists, while motorcyclists accounted for 32 of the total number of victims. Speed continues to be a major concern on Tehama County roadways. In 2023, speed played a role in nearly 12% of the accidents.
