Two Construction Workers Die after Trench Collapses at 7900 N. El Dorado St in Stockton

Stockton, CA – Two construction workers were found dead Saturday morning after a trench they were working on collapsed in Stockton.

According to the Stockton Fire Department, a rescue team was dispatched to the 7900 block of North El Dorado Street after reports of a collapsed trench with two men possibly trapped under debris.

The firefighters were informed that three men had been working on the trench Friday evening when one of the workers left the site at around 5:30 p.m., while the other two stayed behind to continue working.

The worker returned Saturday morning and noticed the other worker’s cars were still parked at the site, and their cellphones were left behind. When he went to the trench, he saw debris piled inside. The worker called for help.

Firefighters removed the debris from the hole and found two men dead.

The fire department said it appears the walls of the trench collapsed, filling the hole with debris while the workers were still inside. The exact time that the incident happened remained unknown.

The accident is being investigated by Cal/OSHA.
