Corona, CA – The Corona Fire Department paramedics has identified a trucker that was killed in a collision late Saturday night on 91 Freeway in Corona as Stephen Palacios of Rancho Cucamonga.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the mishap was reported at around 11:50 p.m. on April 12 on Interstate 91 near Lincoln Avenue.
The incident started when Modesto Daniel Carpio of San Jacinto was illegally racing on Interstate 60 near Euclid Avenue in Ontario.
Moments later Carpio collided with a semi-truck hauling a trailer.
Carpio was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail Sunday on suspicion of second-degree murder and felony evading.
Palacios was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he died an hour later. His passenger, whose identity was not disclosed, suffered moderate injuries, was taken to the same hospital, and is expected to recover.
Carpio, who was alone in the Infiniti, was not hurt.
No additional information about the mishap was available.
An investigation is ongoing.
