South Sacramento, CA – One person was killed, and two others were injured following a crash involving multiple vehicles and a pedestrian on Stockton Boulevard in South Sacramento on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred on Stockton Boulevard near Elsie Avenue at around 4 p.m. on December 14, 2025.
CHP reported that an eastbound vehicle on Stockton Boulevard ran a red light and collided with another vehicle that was turning right onto Elsie Avenue from Stockton Boulevard. The impact forced the struck vehicle to the left, where it hit a pedestrian on a concrete island separating the eastbound and westbound lanes.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said. The name of the victim has not been released.
After hitting the pedestrian, the vehicle continued into the westbound lanes of Elsie Avenue and struck multiple vehicles. The driver who ran the red light was transported to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Another individual was also transported with complaints of minor injuries. CHP noted that a person inside an overturned vehicle was ejected and may have been struck by another vehicle following the collision.
At this time, CHP said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
CHP officers responded to the scene to investigate and provide aid, closing portions of Stockton Boulevard and Elsie Avenue while the collision was cleared and the investigation continued.
The crash caused traffic delays in the area as authorities worked to reopen lanes and manage vehicle flow.
The incident remains under investigation by the CHP.
