Somis, CA – Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a tractor accident on a Somis farm late last month as Gustavo Valencia Chavez, 52, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office.
The fatal incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Dec. 30 at an agricultural property in the 3900 block of Berylwood Road.
Investigators said the man was operating a tractor when it overturned while making a turn, trapping him beneath the vehicle.
First responders pronounced Chavez dead at the scene. The victim was a Somis resident.
The medical examiner determined Chavez died from mechanical asphyxia, and his death was ruled accidental.
Ventura County Sheriff's deputies responded alongside Ventura County Fire Department personnel and representatives from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. The incident was documented as a workplace accident.
