A preliminary investigation determined that Dreyer was driving southbound on SR 203 near milepost 20 when he tried to overtake another car and collided with an oncoming northbound vehicle

Snohomish County, WA – The Washington State Patrol has identified the man who was killed in an accident that occurred on State Route 203 in Snohomish County Wednesday night.
Fox Dreyer, 18, of Woodinville, died in the crash that was reported at around 6:30 p.m. January 7, near Cherry Valley Road, between Monroe and Duvall.
A preliminary investigation determined that Dreyer was driving southbound on SR 203 near milepost 20 when he tried to overtake another car and collided with an oncoming northbound vehicle.
The Washington State Patrol and emergency personnel arrived at the scene shortly after and attended to the involved parties. Dreyer was declared deceased at the scene.
The other driver, Callie Wheller, 21, of Monroe, was transported to EvergreenHealth Monroe as a precaution. Authorities said both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and impairment was not suspected to have played a role in the incident.
The accident led to the closure of SR 203 for an unspecified duration as crews worked at the scene. The Washington State Patrol is still conducting an investigation into the deadly Snohomish County collision.
Traffic-related deaths in Snohomish County have remained a serious concern, averaging 44 fatalities annually between 2021 and 2023. The situation worsened as it reached its highest point in 2022, when 57 lives were lost due to traffic collisions. Data from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) shows that a large share of these fatal crashes occurred on state highways, with State Routes 99, 92, 9, and 530 ranking among the most dangerous roadways in the county. These routes are particularly hazardous due to a combination of sharp curves and heavy traffic flow, including frequent semi-truck activity. Such conditions often lead to risky passing maneuvers, increasing the likelihood of vehicles veering into oncoming lanes. In addition to roadway design and traffic volume, contributing factors commonly include impaired driving, excessive speed, unsafe passing, and driver distraction. Motorists are strongly encouraged to stay alert, especially when traveling through high-risk areas, to reduce the chances of being involved in a devastating crash.
