According to Simi Valley police, Shields was walking on the sidewalk near the cafe when a Tesla struck her. The Tesla was reportedly heading north in the parking lot when it crossed the eastbound and westbound lanes, drifted into the sidewalk, and hit the pedestrian.

Simi Valley, CA – The woman who died when a vehicle slammed into Urbane Cafe in Simi Valley late last month has been identified by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Virginia Shields, 79, of Agoura Hills, was killed in the accident that took place at the cafe located at 2091 Madera Road at around 2:30 p.m. on June 29.
According to Simi Valley police, Shields was walking on the sidewalk near the cafe when a Tesla struck her. The Tesla was reportedly heading north in the parking lot when it crossed the eastbound and westbound lanes, drifted into the sidewalk, and hit the pedestrian.
Police and emergency crews responded to the scene and Shields was declared deceased shortly after at the scene.
The driver of the Tesla, a Thousand Oaks resident, sustained moderate injuries while a passenger in the vehicle had minor injuries. They were both transported to a hospital for treatment.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Simi Valley Police Department.
