Santa Ynez, CA.- A driver died in a single-car accident that sent a vehicle tumbling down a steep slope in Santa Ynez on Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported at around 4:40 p.m. December 17, on Figueroa Mountain Road northeast of the Figueroa campground.
According to investigators, a man was driving a Jeep Gladiator when he drifted off the side and overturned. The vehicle landed nearly 300 feet down a steep embankment.
The California Highway Patrol, California State Parks Ranger and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to the incident. The man was extricated from the vehicle and CPR was immediately initiated.
Despite life-saving measures, the man succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at 6 p.m. The victim's identity was not immediately released. The authorities used rope rescue system to lift the man's body back up the road.
