San Marcos, CA – Elderly Cyclist Dies After Collision with SUV on San Marcos Boulevard

San Marcos, CA – A 78-year-old bicyclist was killed in a traffic collision involving an SUV on West San Marcos Boulevard in San Marcos on Tuesday afternoon, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

The fatal crash occurred at about 12:11 p.m. on April 21 in the 1900 block of W. San Marcos Boulevard.

Authorities reported that a white Lexus SUV collided with the bicyclist in the westbound lanes of the roadway. Deputies arrived at the scene and found the cyclist down in the roadway following the impact.

The 78-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:26 p.m. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators. No arrests have been reported.

Deputies and paramedics responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures before the victim was pronounced dead.

West San Marcos Boulevard west of Rancho Santa Fe Road was shut down for several hours, and motorists were advised to seek alternate routes. All lanes were reopened by approximately 4:50 p.m.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors.

The incident remains under investigation by the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit
